Modern Ginza, beginning with the construction of European-style street of brick buildings in 1877, this has always been an enterprising district with the newest architecture embodying advanced technologies and aesthetic trends as well as urban development ideals. Although many great buildings were lost to the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923 and to the American air strikes of 1945, as well as to the relentless redevelopment of the postwar years, here are still many buildings delight our eyes. ginza.jp/en/tourist-map

GINZA PLACE
A shopping center that features a unique grid-like facade
At the 4-chome-cross where we started our Ginza tour stands this newest landmark of the area. Wearing ephemeral coat of light and information signage on its porcelain-white exterior, this is neither modern nor postmodern. From solid Wako to transparent Sanai, and now onto this surface manifestation of our digital information age, architecture of Ginza has been always representing the latest manners of our urban existence. That’s why we need to keep our eyes on the architectural evolution of Ginza. exterior design: Klein Dytham architecture (2016) You can download the pamphlet in PDF through this link. ginza.jp/en/tourist-map It is available at the tourist centers around Ginza as well. ginza.jp/en/townguide/touristo...
